Ex Nihilo announced on the 10th that it has opened an exclusive store at Shinsegae Centum City, marking its first expansion into a provincial market after establishing five locations in the metropolitan area. This development signifies a strategic move to broaden its distribution network across South Korea.
Founded in 2013 in Paris, Ex Nihilo specializes in luxury niche fragrances, renowned for its meticulous selection of the highest-quality materials without cost considerations. Following its domestic launch in 2020, the brand has sustained double-digit growth annually, with a remarkable 131% revenue increase last year and a 143% surge in the first quarter of this year. This trajectory underscores its positioning as an emerging powerhouse within the niche fragrance segment.
The decision to enter the Busan market is primarily driven by a rising demand among regional customers who desire in-store experiences before purchasing. This aligns with Ex Nihilo’s commitment to enhancing its presence in key locations throughout the country, reinforcing its operational foundation in the domestic market.
The Shinsegae Centum City store is significant not just for its size, being the largest luxury shopping space outside the capital, but also for its unique standing as the only provincial store to surpass annual revenues of 2 trillion won for three consecutive years. By targeting the youth demographic in Busan, which has a high demand for small luxury items, Ex Nihilo is strategically positioning itself to tap into a lucrative customer base.
At the Centum City location, consumers will have the opportunity to experience the full range of Ex Nihilo products, including its fragrances, body care, and home fragrances. The store will prominently feature its latest product, “Rust in Paradise Extrême de Parfum,” which reinterprets the bestseller “Rust in Paradise Eau de Parfum” with a deeper olfactory profile that enhances longevity and diffusion, attracting interest from connoisseurs seeking richer experiences.
The new fragrance boasts a high concentration of perfume essence, capturing the essence of the golden sunsets of the French Riviera imbued with an invigorating atmosphere. The initial notes of blackcurrant accord and red ginger provide vibrant energy, succeeded by the floral richness of peony and rose, culminating in a soft, lingering musk and woody base.
An official from Shinsegae International, responsible for Ex Nihilo, noted that the high-end niche fragrance market continues to grow sharply, establishing itself as a core category representing small luxury goods. Given that fragrance selection is greatly influenced by in-store experiences, the company plans to persistently expand its offline presence to convey its differentiated brand value effectively.
